During a national emergency as restrictions have been imposed by public authorities and residents have been called upon to take increased precautionary measures in order to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Cēsu alus will take additional product safety measures. From now on, foil lids will be used for all produced beverages in cans, starting from 1 April. This solution will increase the safety of consumers, because the foil protects the can from bacteria and viruses in the environment.
Advantages of foil covers are that they significantly increase the level of hygiene and ensure the cleanliness of cans from the time they are filled up to the point where they come into the hands of the consumer. Thanks to the foil lid, which is removed before opening and using the can, dust, dirt and bacteria do not get into it, and consumer can be sure that no one in the store has touched the opening tab of the can.
Eva Sietinsone, Chairman of the Board of Cēsu alus: “Now, during an emergency, when the public pays a lot of attention to hygiene and safety issues, we have devoted funds to ensuring foil lids on top of all our beverage cans, including non-alcoholic beer and lemonade, starting in April. This will give consumers an additional sense of security in the current circumstances. The price of drinks will not change due to additional investments.”
Ineta Jonase, Cēsu alus Quality Manager, adds: “The technological process of filling cans is complex and responsible – it aims to provide a microbiologically clean, quality product that is safe for the consumer to use immediately. Before canning, each can is thoroughly washed, and after the beverage is filled into the can, it is capped, pasteurized and the lid is treated with UV radiation, which destroys bacteria and viruses. The production process ends with the foil lid being placed on the can and the cans being packed.”
